A nine-year-old boy who married a 62-year-old woman last year has wed her again to make the union ‘official’.
Dressed in a silvery tuxedo, baby-faced Saneie clutched the hand of mother-of-five Helen Shabangu, as they repeated their vows a year on in front of 100 guests at their wedding.
As he did first time round, young Saneie Masilela controversially kissed his bride Helen Shabangu at her home in Mpumalanga, South Africa, where the latest pretend wedding took place.
The family of the boy, and Mrs Shabangu, were widely criticised after last year’s union but both were still unapologetic. ‘I didn’t have a problem with it because I know it’s what the ancestors wanted and it would make them happy,”
Saneie’s mother Patience Masilela, 47, said. Mrs Shabangu, who said the wedding was just a ritual, played down the controversy and added the two of them were ‘just playing’.
Saneie seemed more serious about the whole thing and said he married the mother-of-five because he loved her.
The ceremony, which took place at Ximhungwe village in Mpumalanga, South Africa, was witnessed by the brides’ children who are aged between 28 and 38.
