Kojo Asomani elected NPP Gomoa East Parliamentary candidate

The NPP’s Gomoa East Constituency in the Central Region has picked Kojo Asomani as its parliamentary candidate for the 2016 Parliamentary elections.

He polled 205 votes as against 199 by his contender, Marcus Yaw Danso.

The polls which was the second time the constituency was voting was also last constituency primary of the NPP to be held in the Central Region for the 2016 election.

The re-run became necessary after the NPP June Parliamentary primaries recorded a tie between Kojo Asomani and Dr. Marcus Yaw Danso with each polling 153 votes.

This led to a party member, Adolf Nfodwo, who is a staunch supporter of Apostle Dr Marqus Yaw Danso, filing a suit at the Agona Swedru High Court against the Central Regional Electoral Officer of the NPP, the Regional secretariat of the NPP and Kojo Asomani.

He petitioned the court to declare Marcus Danso as the validly elected parliamentary candidate for the constituency, insisting that there were some irregularities that allegedly occurred during the counting of the ballots.

Adolf Nfodwo, also asked the court to direct the Central Regional NPP to declare Marcus Danso as the validly elected candidate with 154 votes, while the third defendant, Mr Kojo Asomani should be put on record as having secured 153 votes.

The court dismissed the case paving the way for the elections to be held.
