The Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Madam Akua Donkor says he is not the least surprised that High Court Judge, Justice Ernest Obimpeh made the list of 34 corrupt Judges who have been implicated in the massive corruption scandal that has rocked Ghana’s Judiciary.
According to Akua Donkor who said she has known the Judge for several years noted that, Justice Obimpeh has over the years demonstrated clearly that he could be easily compromised in the discharge of his duties, as he has left several armed robbery suspects off the hook in strange circumstances that defies common sense.
Ace Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw in a two-year investigative piece has established the involvement of some 34 Judges neck deep in corrupt activities in cases they presided over.
Some of them took bribes in the form of money and food stuffs and left suspects off the hook.
Currently twenty-two of the judges – mainly magistrates – are on suspension, while 12 high court judges were expected to file their written responses to the petition by close of Monday, September 14.
In an interview with Kasapa News Madam Akua Donkor stated that it would have been unfair and not a good reflection of the fact if Justice Obimpeh’s name was left out in the infamous list of corrupt Judges.
“I have known this Judge for several years. He was in Kumasi before he was transferred to Accra. He is not someone who can be trusted to do a fair and just job. Many armed robbery suspects have been left to go free by his court. I decided not to mention his name when this scandal first broke up. But once the Chief Justice has named the corrupt Judges, I think I have to let Ghanaians know this bit about Justice Opimpeh. I prepared to testify before the investigative panel when I’m invited”.
