Former hiplife artiste Isaac Okai known as Yaw Siki has turned down an offer from UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu to assist him financially.
Siki, now an Evangelist, says he will not accept Sonnie Badu’s offer explaining that his rejection is based on the fact that Sonnie Badu rather chose to make the offer publicly.
Sonnie offered to support Yaw Siki on social media few days after Yaw Siki revealed in an interview with Hitz News that he now makes a living from offertory he receives after preaching in commercial buses.
“I preach in the trotros (Commercial buses). I preach in between lanes in the communities and people give [me money] when I preach. I do not ask but when I finish and some people call me, ‘oh take this, take that’ and with family support, I am able to pay my bills,” he said.
Siki added, “I feel rejected, I am human [being] but already the bible has made me know that if I am in Christ I am not of this world. So, definitely once I am not of this world and not doing the worldly things then I cannot associate with them.”
Quoting the scripture to support his decision, he said “I love my senior brother Sonnie Badu and I respect him so much and what he did is an act of righteousness but Matthew 6:1-4 says ‘Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven, so when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by others.”
He added that “Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”, based on this word Jesus is against us doing charitable deeds and blowing our trumpet before us for self-glorification so I am not able to take the offer.”
He made his decision known during an interview with KMJ on Daybreak Hitz (Showbiz Review) on Hitz 103.9FM.
When he was asked whether he will accept any of such kind gestures (offering) when he is contacted privately, the ‘Medi Wo Akyi’ singer said, honestly, ever since he starting doing God’s work, offering is what preachers depend on to do God’s work so if anyone brings offering “I will accept it.”
Yaw Siki survived a gory accident in 2013 on the Accra-Tema Motorway which left the young rapper bedridden for months and also renewed his faith in God.
Answering a question on if he will accept the offer from the ‘Baba’ singer in secrecy, Yaw said, “God’s words will be final.”
He added that after the publication by Myjoyonline.com went viral he has received support from in and outside Ghana.
“Ever since the story on Myjoyonline.com went viral people have been calling from in and outside Ghana to support me financially and also to partner with my ministry. All I want is to draw people close to God,” he concluded.
