Some residents in the area claim they have been hearing screams and other strange noise at night which they believe are made by those who died in the tragedy. They called on the leaders to perform some rituals to reduce what they described as the ‘heaviness’ in the area.

Over 150 people died in the disaster which occurred on June 3, 2015 at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

A memorial service was subsequently held for the fire and flood victims at the State House in Accra.

Many have since the incident occurred blamed city authorities for failing to devise measures to prevent the incident but the Accra Mayor , Oko Vanderpujie recently stated that various authorities should not be held liable for the incident.

He stated that government will put in place robust measures to dredge the Odaw river and Korle Lagoon to prevent a recurrence of the incident.

“What happened on June 3rd, I or anybody in leadership do not wish for that to happen again and that is why massively we are dredging the Odaw river, dreding the Korle Lagoon, dredging all the way into the ocean so that when it rains, water will find its way.”
