Two people died after a trailer collided with a train on August 10, Monday, in Agege area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. PM News reports that the accident happened around 8:45pm when the driver of the trailer wanted to drive through the rail line not paying attention to the horn of the train.
Two persons who were hanging on to the train were said to have fallen off and died immediately due to the sudden collision of the train with the trailer.
The tragic accident caused traffic gridlock in Agege and its environs, therefore, motorists spent over four hours navigating through the area.
It reportedly took several hours before the police, officers of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), National Emergency Management Agency and others could remove the train and the trailer from the road to allow other motorists to navigate.
On August 11, Tuesday, Michael Akindele, the general manager of LASEMA, confirmed that two persons, Saka Nagim and Segun Adebambo, lost their lives in a tragic accident.
Akindele called on Lagosians to value their lives and stopped hanging on trains. He also said that the train was coming from Ikeja while the trailer coming from Okekoto towards Pen Cinema wanted to push through the rail line before the train ramped on it.
According to eyewitnesses, shortly after the accident the driver of the trailer absconded, while the second person was arrested by the police.
