Traditional council rejects Dr Tackie as Ga Mantse

The Ga Traditional Council has rejected Dr Kelvin Nii Tackie Abia Tackie as the new Ga Mantse, claiming that his installation was a sham.

According to the council, the only known and gazetted Ga Mantse was Nii Tackie Adama Latse ll.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra yesterday, the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayibonte II, said Nii Latse II had, since June 11, 2011, been the only Ga chief with his name gazetted in the Regional House of Chiefs.

Present at the programme were some elders and heads of the Ga Traditional Council dressed in red outfit with red arm-bands to protest the installation of the new Ga Mantse.

Background

Last Saturday in Accra, the Dzaasetse of the Ga State, Nii Dr Tetteh Kwei II and the accredited heads and elders of the Ga Paramount Stool, Known as Dzaase, installed Dr Kelvin Nii Tackie Abia Tackie as the new Ga Mantse under the stool name King Dr Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.

His installation took a dramatic turn when the office of the Ga Paramount Stool, in a press statement signed by the Stool Secretary, Niinabi Anyah Tackie-Yarboi, disowned him.

According to the statement, there already existed a Ga Mantse in the person of Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse ll, the same person the office of the Ga Traditional Council recognised as the Ga chief.

Ga Council unhappy

Sporting red outfit himself, the Gbese Mantse, who is also the President of the Ga Traditional Council, said the council had no knowledge of the installation of the new Ga Mantse and, therefore, would not entertain any professed new chief.
He said the Council would never condone any misrepresentation and misleading tactics by any individual or institution.

He accused some media houses of being the brain behind all the misleading stories concerning the Ga State.

He said although their publications could never distract the Council from performing its duties, they had the tendency to resurrect unnecessary debate and confusion.

Nii Ayibonte, therefore, advised the general public to disregard the purported publications concerning the installation of the new Ga chief and urged the media to not rush to publish stories without proper checks.
