President Mahama to launch 40-year development plan today

President John Mahama will today launch a process for the preparation of a long-term National Development Plan for the country.
It will be the first ever long-term development plan spanning a period of 40 years. The plan which will be spearheaded by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) is aimed at shaping Ghana’s future and complementing the existing medium development plans of the country. The President, who resumed work yesterday after a one-week break, will this week also inaugurate a new tomato processing and packaging factory, and the completed Fufulso- Sawla road.
On Friday, the President will inspect ongoing works at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and open to traffic two of the flyovers at the Interchange.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has asked the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to re-evaluate the 40-year National Developmental Policy framework to ensure continuity and stability in governance.

According to the party’s Chairperson, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, said the plan must be re-evaluated because it will be difficult for a political party in opposition, that finds a governing policy wrong, to continue the work of the previous government when it attains power.

Many analysts, including the Central Regional Secretary of the Council of Labour, Mr. Samuel Kweku Doughan have calleed for the institution of a National Development Plan and Economic Structural Policy for the country.

He said the trend where every government worked according to its own manifesto, neglecting the previous government’s efforts irrespective of their importance was doing the country a disservice, hence the need for the plan.
