“Operation Clean Your Frontage” Kicks Off with decongestion, clean up exercises

The Greater Accra regional minister Hon Henry Quartey has officially launched the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” to ensure the streets, homes and communities are clean for the well-being of residents in the Greater Region and Ghanaians at vast.

The “Operation Clean Your Frontage” is an initiative championed by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) under the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey seeks to make it obligatory for all individuals and corporate entities to be responsible for cleaning and greening their immediate surroundings.

Hon Henry Quartey addressed a parade of security personnel, National Service personnel, and staff from all the twenty-nine (29) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) hinted that the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” project was not himself but for everyone residing in the region.

“Let us not politicise the” Operation Clean Your Frontage” initiative to deny the people of their daily bread but the safety and well being of the people”.

He, therefore, urged the residents in the Greater Accra Region to embrace it, participate to ensure its sustainability.

“All the stakeholders in the sanitation sector are all involved to see the implementation and enforcement of the bye-laws in the various MMDAs in the region. 1,200 out of the 3,500 people recruited are all under training and expected to pass out in March this year to serve as a task force to ensure the school of the initiative”.

Speaking to the media, the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong hailed the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Henry Quartey for his bold step and leadership to ensure the national capital is clean and safe for residents.

“To ensure the sustainability of the project, my outfit Zoomlion will be providing the logistics and personnel for the clean your frontage initiative. The first four transfer sites are ready to commence work as the enforcement of the initiative starts in the region”.

He noted that designs have been done, the equipment has been imported and currently looking at eight sites but for are ready.

According to him, transfer solid waste stations will be in Mallam, Madina, Ashaiman and Weija to support the Achimota and Accra solid waste sites.

Dr Siaw Agyepong added that 2,000 brand new tricycles designed for Accra were provided with containers as well as 60 brand new trucks to support and sustain the initiative were ready.

The executive chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies(JGC) made this known at a ceremony held at the Independence Square on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, to sensitise and educate the residents in the region.

Security officers from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Immigration Service, to enforce the Sanitation by-laws saw the public being sensitized on modalities and organisation of clean-up exercises in some selected areas, including Kaneshie First Light, to Obetsebi-Lamptey Roundabout, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Farisco, UTC and Okaishie.
