Homowo festival must gain national appeal – CCG

he General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Rev. Dr Stephen Opuni-Frimpong says the period of Homowo festival can be dovetailed in our national campaign against problems the country is facing.

He stated that the course to address most of the challenges confronting the nation, ostensibly concurs with the significance of the festival, ‘which equally meant hooting at something unpleasant,’ hence noted that the celebrations must appeal to all.

“The significance of the Homowo festival which is to hoot at hunger is still relevant now. Today, we are confronted with many challenges such as corruption, illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, inequalities and energy crisis which we need to hoot at as a people. These are the modern day famine that we are struggling with and the Homowo festival provides us with that platform to hoot at them as was done by our forefathers many years ago”.

He made the observation at an ordination service for ministers of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Madina on Sunday, July 19, 2015.

He’s disclosed that his outfit will join the La, Osu, Ngleshie Alata and others to celebrate this year’s Homowo festival, the first time in many years, due to its importance.

According to him, the Council together with other Ga-Traditional authorities have outlined a number of activities to mark this year’s festival.
