Final year SHS female student receives lashes for giving her jacket to a male colleague

A final year student of Jachie-Pramso in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti region has been given several lashes by the headmaster for giving her jacket to a male colleague who has been penalized.

Mary Amoako, a 19-year-old and General Acts student was given several lashes by the headmaster, who was angry with her for being kind to give her jacket to one male student who came to class without wearing a uniform.

Mary in an interview with Dailyviewgh.com stated that, the headmaster asked the boy to remove his shirt and go half-naked to the dormitory and wear a uniform before he comes back to the classroom.

She said, she later gave her jacket to the said boy to wear after the headmaster has ceased the boy’s shirt and left.

The headmaster, according to the girls, later saw the boy going to the dormitory while wearing a jacket, and when he found out that, it was the lady who gave the jacket to the boy, “He later came to the office and beat me mercilessly,” she narrated.

Glaring photos of cane marks at the back of Mary showing how she was subjected to assault has been trending on social media, a situation a section of Ghanaians has described as unfortunate.

The final year student, a victim of corporal punishment, explained she feels sharp pains in her spine which makes sitting almost impossible.

“Now I can’t even concentrate and learn because I’ve been traumatized I have not been able to go to campus since the incident happened and I’m scared it might affect me.”

Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Coordinator for Girl Child Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Hannah Amponsah, wading into the conversation, described the incident as unprofessional and urged the victim to report it at the district education office for it to be reported at the regional level for appropriate measures to be taken.

The JAPASS Headmaster, identified as Mr Donkor, who has been accused of assaulting the student, is yet to give his version of the story at the time this report was filed.
