Calm returns to Tuobodom after bloodbath

The Interior Ministry says it is strengthening security arrangements at Tuobodom in the Techiman Municipality of the Brong Ahafo region after yesterday’s shooting which left five people dead and many more injured.

There are conflicting reports as to what exactly triggered the violent attack in the town.

Deputy Interior Ministry James Agalga told Joy News masked men were alleged to have gone on rampage shooting innocent people Wednesday.

A house was torched with some cars burnt as well in the clashes. He could not tell exactly what the motive for the shooting was.

No arrests have yet been made after the attacks Even though the Tuobodam area in the past has been a hotbed of chieftaincy clashes, Agalga said it is premature to conclude Wednesday’s violence had any chieftaincy underpinnings. Six people died in the incident with eight sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Four of the deceased persons are from the same family, a victim told Joy News. Regional and District security council officials have been meeting all day to strategise on restoring calm to the town. According to James Agalga, there has been police and military reinforcement to ensure there is lasting peace in the area.

The Deputy Minister is hopeful the regional security council will be able to get to the bottom of the matter. James Agalga was convinced the perpetrators will be arrested no matter how long it takes. Meanwhile calm has returned to the area, Gaskia FM reporter Anas Sabit said.
