Annual Review Meeting of Greater Accra Region of NHIA Held

The Greater Accra Region of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has held its Annual review meeting for district managers, monitoring and evaluation officers in Accra.


“The region achieved 82.45% of the mobile renewal target at the end of 2021 and achieved also 27.58% of the indigent registration target at the end of the year”, the Authority said.


Consequently, the region’s active membership figure at the end of the year 2021 was 2,330,196 representing 80.99% of the adjusted annual target of 2,877,124.
In addition, the region achieved the highest revenue mobilisation performance in the year 2021 which stood at 21.33% higher compared to the year 2020.


Speaking at the NHIA 2021 annual performance review meeting in Accra, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority, Mr. Bernard Nii Anyaa Brown said the performance meeting take stock of operations in the year 2021 in line with the prudent measures put in place by management to scale up the operations of the scheme.


The meeting created a platform for management, staff and district managers among others to discuss and deliberate on issues relating to the scheme and address also challenges and the way forward of enhancing the operations to make the citizenry more accessible and signed unto the scheme as well expand coverage of registration.


Issues brought to the fore includes the inadequate supply of consumables, administrative support, logistics, duplication of works, pressure on achievement of targets among others.


He stated that the Ghana card is now linked to the National Health Insurance card and urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the gesture and however commended government for the laudable policy for the general healthcare services of the public, adding that the initiative have limited the burden on those who do not have the national health insurance card.


Mr. Bernard Brown expressed his gratitude for the brilliant works of officials at the claims and quality assurance departments for their commitments and tireless effort in effectively and efficiently operating the scheme and urged them to initiative linkages as tools to help address emerging trends and challenges of the scheme.


He advised managers to share the knowledge acquired and the requisite skills with management and staff and challenged them to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing the scheme and ensure also that timelines and targets are achieved as well as the needed client services be exhibited in the line of duty.


The Credentialing Officer of Quality Assurance Directorate of NHIA, Ms Abigail Asalu in a presentation outlined the national active membership figure in the year 2021 and explained that active membership figure at the end of 2021 recorded 16,759,158 representing 54.36% of the nation’s population.


She indicated that Greater Accra Region recorded a 10.48% increase in the national revenue mobilization figure from Gh¢127,685, 239.44 in the year 2020 as compared to Gh¢141,067,898.04 in 2021.
