The Black Stars captain replaced Brazilian midfielder Davi in the 57th minute but it took the 29-year-old just nine minutes to announce his presence after finishing off a perfect pass from Wu Lei to put his side 2-1 up.
SIPG however couldn’t hold on to their lead as Bi Jinhao netted their equaliser in the 68th minute.
Shanghai SIPG have now slipped to the second spot on the league log, with Guangzhou Evergrande topping on 47 points, one point above Gyan’s SIPG.
