Two persons died on the spot while two others sustained varying degrees of injury in an accident which occurred on the Mallam-Kasoa highway yesterday.
The accident, which occurred at about 3 p.m., involved a Ghana Water Company pickup, a Ford vehicle and a tipper truck.
The driver of the Ford vehicle and another occupant died on the spot.
Two other occupants of the Ghana Water Company vehicle who sustained injuries were taken to the Ga South Municipal Hospital and later transfered to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Police on the scene
The Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTU) Divisional Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Mr Abdulai Mumuni, told the Daily Graphic that the driver of the Ford vehicle, who was travelling towards Kasoa from the Mallam-Odorkor area, “for some unknown reason, veered off the road and ran into the Ghana Water Company pickup.
He said in the process the Ford vehicle somersaulted while the tipper truck which was closely behind the Ghana Water Company truck rammed it.
He said the driver of the tipper truck attempted to avoid hitting the pickup but failed.
However, he said, the driver of the tipper truck and the driver of the Ghana Water Company vehicle escaped death while the two occupants on the Ford vehicle died on the spot.
“The bodies are yet to be unidentified. The Ford vehicle is so mangled that it is difficult to tell the type of the car even though it looks like a four wheel drive,” he said.
The three vehicles were later towed to the Odorkor Divisional MTTU.
Mr Mumuni said the police had commenced investigations into the accident
