The Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) with its mission “Making God’s Word Available and Affordable and encouraging its use to transform lives” has held its 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Evangel Assemblies of God Church at Adabraka in Accra.
In attendance were the management and staff, present and past officers and the management team of the Bible Society of Ghana.
The current officers of the BSG are Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah – President, Mrs. Florence Hutchful – Vice President, Ps. Dr. Chris Annan-Nunoo – Chairman of Council, Prof. Mrs. Akosua Anyidohu – Vice Chairman of Council, Rev. Dr. Enoch Aryee-Atta – General Secretary.
Presenting the 2020 annual report at the AGM, the General Secretary of the BSG, Rev. Dr. Enoch Aryee-Atta said in spite of the debilitating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy businesses and churches, the Lord was so gracious to the BSG and have enabled the society to achieve the set objectives in terms of translation, bible distribution, church relations, programmes and resource mobilization.
He said seven (7) full Bibles and two (2) New Testaments of the Society published scriptures were uploaded on to the YouVersion platform for free download by the reading public and the also launched the Esahie Bible on 15th November 2020 at the Church of Pentecost Dwenase Assembly in Sehwi Wiawso saying ongoing translation works in Dagaare, Gurune, Bono are ongoing as four (4) new gospel tracts are been drafted for editing, printing and distribution and progressing steadily.
“The Society coordinated with schools within Adabraka, Accra Newtown, Kanda Accra Zone local council of Churches and para-church organisations for the National Bible reading marathon during the 2020 Bible week celebration in Accra”, the General Secretary added.
Touching on Bible advocacy programmes, Rev. Dr. Aryee-Atta said two series of virtual ABLI Youth fora were held on 12th and 27th November 2020 to empower the youth on the proper orientation towards effective politics for nation-building comprising 150 youth from various churches.
On Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), he said the Society in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) across the regions in which the BSG operates and mentioned items such as veronica buckets, hand sanitisers, face masks, liquid soaps, gloves, boxes of Good News Bibles and trauma healing materials named “Beyond Disaster” to various hospitals and institutions to support frontline workers.
“Some beneficiaries were Korle Bu Covid-19 Centre, Ga East Municipal Hospital, Jamestown Police Station and the Ussher Fort Clinic in the Greater Accra region, others were the Adisabel Urban hospital and Cape Coast district police station in the Central Region, Tarkwa Municipal hospital, Western Region, Kumasi Central Prisons, Ashanti Region, Ho Municipal hospital, Volta Oti Region, Duayaw Nkwanta Prison, Sunyani Female Prisons, Methodist Medical Centre and Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern Region”, he mentioned.
The occasion was also used to honour Officers who have exhibited commitment in their respective working endeavours as well as the launch of the BSG Anthem.
