At least seven shops have been ravaged by fire in Koforidua in the Eastern region, destroying properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The incident which occurred around 10:15ma on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, was reportedly caused by an electrical fault on the main power supply pole of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Starr FM reported.

“Unfortunately, I was in my room when I heard the sound. So I came out to look at what is happening and I saw the fire,” a resident in the community shared.
He however added that efforts to get the fire service to quench the fire proved futile as it took the service over an hour to get to the scene.
Firefighters though responded late, managed to extinguish the fire preventing it from spreading to other nearby shops.
Koforidua was founded in 1875 by migrants from Ashanti. It is also called New Juaben. The city has a settlement city proper population of 183,727 people as of 2010, Koforidua is an amalgamation of two Municipalities; New Juaben North and South.
