The Cape Coast Youth Development Association has cautioned the Volta Youth for Development to desist from unwarranted attacks on the Vice-President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur.
They also cautioned a group supporting Ms Hannah Tetteh as running mate for the President, John Mahama, to also desist from discrediting the person of the Vice-President.
“We will never sit down for anyone to attack and discredit the Vice-President who is from Cape Coast. We would at this point caution the Volta Youth for Development and Hannah Tetteh’s group to desist from unwarranted attacks on the Vice-President,” it stated.
At a press conference addressed by the Secretary of the group, Mr Kingsley Boafo, on Tuesday, the group called on the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, to maintain the Vice-President, Mr Amissah Arthur, as his running mate for the 2016 general elections to help maintain and increase votes from the Central Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
CR NDC stronghold
Mr Boafo indicated that a Mahama-Amissah-Arthur ticket would help maximise the votes of the NDC in the Central Region and make the region a stronghold of the NDC.
However, the group stated that in case President Mahama decided to drop Amissah-Arthur, he should choose another native of the Central Region in the person of Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah as running mate.
“We support the Vice-President as the running mate in the 2016 elections but if Mr President in your wisdom think that he (Amissah-Arthur) must step aside for someone more effective and who could help you succeed, we would plead with you to choose Ekwow Spio- Garbrah who is also a proud native of Cape Coast and one of our finest and illustrious sons.”
“We want to remind the president that former President Atta Mills’ term of office was truncated but the people of the Central Region were not much worried because he (H.E John Mahama) consoled us with the position of vice-president.”
He called on the president to choose carefully in order to maintain the NDC votes in the Central Region.
