Residents Of Tsopoli Petitions IGP For The Immediate Transfer Of Some Police Personnel Convening With Landguards To Terrorise Indigenes

Elders and residents of Tsopoli in the Ningo Prampram district are calling on the Inspector General of Police, for the immediate transfer of the district police commander, DSP Issah Mohammed Kantona together with some police personnel at the  District whose association with Land guards in the area they say is rather posing threats to the people in the community.

The call by the people follows a near blood bath between the youth of the community and some land guards they believe the police are backing and have given guns to attack them.

According to the angry residents of Tsopoli who are mostly farmers, they were on Monday, taken by surprise when an earth-moving machines were moved into their farmlands by unknown men to clear the lands to win soil. According to the residents, It was a run for your life situation when the farmers, tried preventing sand winners who have invaded their farms grading their crops for their sand winning activities.

They say live bullets were shot at them,  a situation which angered the entire village to mobilize to the farm after a call on Tsopoli police yelled no result.

The youth succeeded in arresting two of the land guards after their bullets got finished and the others took to their hills.

This Ak47 according to the people was retrieved and handed over to the police patrol team deployed from Devtraco police post.

The residents accused the District Police Commander, DSP Issah Mohammed Kantona to have been biased in handling land cases in the area.

They said the commander together with some officers of the command have rather taken side with some faceless individuals and some developers to take over their lands illegally.

The residents say they live in fear and calling on the IGP, the police administration and the president to investigate the matter.

George Teye.Some of the natives have already abandoned their farmlands and homes to seek shelter in neighbouring communities after picking information that with the help of the police commander of prampram the suspected land guards have been granted bail without going to the court.

The residents even though expressed disappointment in the activities of some police personnel at the  District, they acknowledged some other personnel are equally doing their work diligently.

The station officer of Devtraco police station Supt Washington Dodzi Foli confirmed the incidence off record but said the investigation is underway. Further checks by awake News gathered that the  AK47 retrieved by from the scene has also been sent to prampram district police command by Amory to aid the investigation.
