Perennial Flooding: Chief Embarks On Dredging Exercise

The Chief of Asamankese, Osabarima Ateabisa Kentenka Pobi Asamani has embarked on the Dredging of major drainage systems within the west Akim municipality.

Dredging of the drainage systems has been the major step taken by the Chief to end  perennial floods in his locality. During the excercise, he cautioned the people of Asamankese to desist from dumping and littering in the drainages.

According to the Ghana Meteorological Agency via it’s Twitter page indicated that, Southeastern Ghana has been engulfed by a rain bearing cloud. This is producing rain of varying intensity within the Volta region. Areas within the Greater Accra and Eastern will be affected before drifting to the Central, Western and parts of the Ashanti.

Floods in the communities within the municipality is mainly caused by the uncontrolled littering and dumping of refuse in the drainage system which prevent the free flow of water during rainfalls.

Most of the tarred roads in the community keeps deteriorating, making it difficult for commuters to ply most of the routes to their farmlands affecting economic activities in the area.

The Chief of Asamankese makes an appeal through the municipal assembly to  government  to expand and modernize the drainage systems to avoid future flood related disasters.
