Passengers stranded as Western Togoland group blocks major entry routes to Volta Region

Members of secessionist group, Homeland Study Foundation, also known as Western Togoland group have blocked major entries into the Volta Region.

The action by the group is believed to have taken place on the dawn of Friday, September 25

Most passengers travelling to areas in the Volta Region including Tefle, Tsopoli and Juapong have all been left stranded as a result of the development.

“They naked the police officers on duty, took their weapons, and locked them in the cells before breaking into the armoury,” said an eye witness.

The group at Mepe after hoisting a Western Togoland flag joined their colleagues at the Aveyime Police Station, seized two police vehicles, and injured an officer.

Eye witnessed accounts detailed that one of the vehicles was driven away by the armed men.

In the photos, they had set fire in the middle of the road and could be seen looking all charged up as if chanting war songs.

In one of the areas at Aveyime, some three police officers were reportedly detained by the separatist group and two of them were reportedly injured.

One member of the separatist group in a radio interview with Accra based Joy FM said “by God’s grace we have three of them [policemen] in our custody. I may say two of them are injured, one is alright.
