NPP cannot pay me – Ace Ankomah

A former Senior Law Lecturer at the Ghana Law School, Ace Kojo Ankomah has refuted claims that he is fronting for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), adding that he cannot be paid by the party.

According to him, fronting for any political party will be the last thing he’ll do as Ghanaian politicians are more concerned about their self interest as against improving the welfare of the people.

He is a leading member of the non-partisan Civil Society group, Occupy Ghana, which is constituted by relatively well-off professionals. They are perceived to be mainly members of the largest opposition party, the NPP.

He has variously been accused by members of the ruling NDC party of doing the bidding of the NPP.

However speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, the astute lawyer Ace Kojo Ankomah stated that he certainly cannot be fronting for the NPP, as his group has taken certain actions that have not been in the interest of that party.

He said Occupy Ghana after realizing that the political parties had breached the law by refusing to declare their financial accounts six months before and after an election, wrote to the Electoral Commission (EC) to demand why the right thing had not been done.

“If I were fronting for the NPP, I wouldn’t have led that action as it affects the party too. Let’s face it… It was during the NPP regime that I was declared persona non grata. After I was interviewed by Robert Nii Ardy Clegg at GBC, the powers that be at the time decided not to show the interview because I had sued them in court over Eva Lokko who was then the Director General of the state broadcaster.”

He added “If I should tell you my experience with successive government, maybe I’ll have to declare myself permanent opposition, because governments over the years have not been happy with me and nobody can pay me. To say the NPP pays me is really insulting.”
