Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a Former Minister for Railways, Mr Joe Ghartey has promised he will make it possible for residents of the Ashanti Region to travel to the nation’s capital by train if he is made the President of the Republic.
“Vote for Joe Ghartey and you will go to Accra by train”, he promised.
According to him, Railway will transform Ghana by linking the two major cities Accra and Kumasi considering the population of these two cities and the people who live between the two.
“Ashanti Region has about five million people and Greater Accra has about 5 million. People living between Kumasi and Accra will be between 5 million people so that’s 15 million people approximately which is half of Ghana’s population so you would need a train between Kumasi and Accra”, he argued.
Mr. Joe Ghartey speaking on the issue of job creation in the railway sector indicated that the government has established the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa will focus on training local people to work in the railway industry.
“As I speak we’ve established a university which is to focus on training people in the railway industry so that, the railway sector we are developing the end of the day Ghanaians will be employed. Vote for Joe Ghatey and there will be a time you will travel from Kumasi to Accra by train. I can’t talk for anybody”. Mr Joe Ghartey told Angel FM Kumasi
