Mahama’s challenger goes to court

George Boateng Arthur, the man who was seeking to contest President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming Presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would on Monday go to court to seek an injunction on the event scheduled for November 7, 2015.

The Oyarifa branch Youth Organiser of the NDC, according to close associates, is currently in talks with some top notch lawyers with leanings to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to see how best to execute their plan.

He is seeking among other things, an injunction on the Presidential primaries and an order to the party national executives, especially, the General Secretary, John Asiedu Nketiah, to make available a copy of the presidential nomination document to enable him file and contest the polls.

He is also seeking an undisclosed amount of money as damages and cost.

As at the close of nomination on Thursday, George Boateng had still not been able to file his forms.

He was the first to pick his nomination forms, but the party executives say that was a draft document sold to him by the party’s accountant.

His attempts to exchange the draft document for the original one has not been successful, fuelling fears that he may end up in court to seek redress.

On Friday, September 4, 2015, Mr. Boateng, served notice that should the NDC block him from participating in the November 7 polls, he would go to court to seek redress.

According to him, there were clear attempts by some executives of the NDC, especially, the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, to prevent him from contesting President Mahama.

Such move, he argued, if succeeded, would see him in court to seek for an interlocutory injunction on the party’s polls.

“I am daring Asiedu Nketiah to go ahead with his plans. If they try to disqualify me, I will sue him or place an injunction on the elections,” a provoked George Boateng said in an interview on TV3’s The Big One program on Thursday evening.

Since then, the Oyarifa branch Youth Organiser of the NDC has been unsuccessful to in exchanging the draft document for the original to enable him file his nomination.
