The Paramount Chief of the Nungua Traditional Area and the Vice President of Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III has received the Ambassador for Peace Award for his exemplary leadership skills and commitment towards working for peace and unity in every jurisdiction and the society at large particularly Nungua.
Receiving the award at his palace, King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III who double as the President of the Nungua Traditional Council, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Universal Peace Foundation for the award bestowed on him saying Chiefs are custodians of the cultural and heritage of the people hence they try as much as possible to engage in peace making.
According to him, for peace to prevail in the community, Chiefs must exhibit sound moral values in every working endeavour of their chieftaincy affairs as the gesture will have a positive impact on the lives of the people thereby creating unity for socio-economic growth and development.
“It is through peace and unity that a country can observe rapid economic transformation therefore Chiefs have a significant role to play in the society”, he said, and however explained that people must be natured traditionally in their respective communities.
He added that the move will also bring self-sufficiency as well as economic growth which will tie into the government programs and initiatives such as “Ghana Beyond Aid” without relying on support from development partners and international donors.
“I expressed by profound gratitude to the Universal Peace Federation for the honour done me and wish the federation well in its working endeavours and programmes”, he said.
In her address at the ceremony, the Secretary General of Universal Peace Federation, Dr. Mrs. Helen Osei said the federation recognises the values and the peace initiatives that the King has exhibited during his reign in the Nungua Traditional Area which have brought the Chiefs and people to live in harmony with one another.
According to her, the federation in collaboration with the Inter-religious and International Federation for World Peace have taken an in-depth information and the good works of King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III and have consequently recognized him as an Ambassador of Peace by Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon Founder and Co-founder of the Universal Peace Federation of the Republic of Korea.
She said the King have demonstrated his passion for peace in areas of religious and cultural activities and services and commended him for the zeal and his approach in addressing issues and challenges in those areas of the public as well as the society.
