I Feel Itchy When NPP Speaks About Corruption – Kwadwo Adu Asare

Presidential staffer, Kwadwo Adu Asare has said that he is always horrified by comments of communicators of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that there is high levels of corruption in the John Mahama led administration.

The former Adentan Member of Parliament (MP) speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme on Thursday said his discomfort lies in the fact that the NPP under the leadership of former President John Agyekum Kufuor had its hands ‘bloodied’ in various corruption scandals.

“I feel itchy when I hear NPP guys talk of corruption, where is the NPP success rate when it comes to matters of corruption…is it when President Kufuor said corruption is as old as Adam, is it when he asked for evidence when we talked of corruption in his government or is it when he set up the office of accountability in his office which outcome we were never privileged to?” he queried.

The Government of Ghana has patted itself in the back over reports by international anti-corruption firm, Transparency International that Ghana and Senegal are making progress in the fight against corruption.

And this, the former MP said tells of the various significant steps taken by the Mahama administration to tackle issues of corruption in the country.

Comparing the Mahama administration to the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Adu Asare said the NDC has performed creditably than the NPP government.

The acquisition of a government bungalow by Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City under the Kufuor administration, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and the alleged allocation of government lands to cronies of then government, Adu Asare, said all lay credence to the massive corruption case recorded under the watch of the former President.

“A whole sitting minister acquired his bungalow and when we said it, he said it was his right…even the land on which the foreign affairs ministry is located was allocated to people and we had to take it back…,” he said.

These cases, he said makes him itchy when people ‘sit on radio and pontificate on corruption when their hands is bloodied in corruption.’

On the Smarty’s Bus rebranding scandal, Adu Asare said he fails to see why the NPP makes noise about it especially as there are no records to show that the MMT Buses generated money from the government for rebranding it ‘Ghana then and now’.

But his assertions, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Gomoa East, George Andah who was also a co-panelist on the show said do not hold water.

George Andah challenged Adu Asare and the NDC administration to provide evidence of any person who served under the Kufuor administration and has been arrested for engaging in acts of corruption.

He added that there is enough evidence to prove that the Kufuor administration and MMT gained lots of money from rebranding of their buses and challenged Kwadwo Adu Asare to cross-check his facts before putting them out.
