Heartbreaking: Stonebwoy speaks on Mum’s death

He lost his mother, Madam Catherine A. Satekla at the 37 Military Hospital, Accra on Wednesday night and already, dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, is missing her badly.

“ I miss her so much because she was my everything. Already I miss our ‘little little’ mother and son fights, I miss her checking on me all the time and I know I will miss her waking up at dawn to open the gates for me when I return late from shows” the Baafira singer told Showbiz last Friday at the launch of his upcoming concert, For Ma Mama at the Accra Mall.

The 2015 BET Awards Best African Act winner who could not hold back his tears as he spoke said what hurts him most was that she died 15 minutes before he arrived to see her in the hospital.

According to him, his dream was to have his mother see him rise and rise in his chosen profession.

“ I had a lot of plans for her. I intended to do a lot for her because she was all that I had. Losing her is such a big blow to me but I know God has a good place for her. I place her above everyone else on earth because she is the reason I am who I am today.

“ I really don’t know how I am going to cope without her because she has helped me a lot. She contributed a lot in my music career by financing me and supporting me with prayers anytime I go out to record a song or to perform”, he said.

Almost choking on his tears as he spoke, Stonebowy said his mum who has been unwell for some time now, was rushed to the 37 Military hospital on Sunday where she was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Stonebwoy who was out of the country when his mother went on admission said she died 15 minutes before his arrival at the hospital. He added that final funeral rites will be communicated to the public when his family meet this week.

In honour of his mother, Stonebwoy will stage a free concert on Saturday, August 8. He said the concert which was originally dubbed Go Higher has been changed to For Ma Mama to honour his mother for all she has done for him.

Asked why he did not cancel the upcoming concert since he is bereaved, Stonebwoy said, “I decided to go ahead with the concert because my mum would have loved for me to do it.

Although I am mourning, I will put up a good show in honour of her”, he said.

The concert which is starting on August 8 at Ashiaman will run through to September. Some of the places he will perform at are Kumasi, Takoradi, Koforidua among others.
