An 18-year-old girl has accused her father of raping her for many years, impregnating her in the process, it has been reported.
Accra-based Joy FM reported Tuesday that the unnamed girl’s father started defiling her when she was 12 years old until she became pregnant at age 16.
“I was pregnant but I didn’t know I was pregnant,” the girl was quoted as having said.
According to the report, the girl’s father started penetrating her vagina gradually until it was open enough for sexual intercourse.
“He goes to work and comes back late to worry me. He sometimes tells me not to wear anything to bed. He sometimes shows pornographic movies to me but I don’t like the movie.
“For me I thought it was something that all fathers do to their daughters. My aunties became suspicious and started asking me questions but he told me to tell them that I was raped,” she was quoted as saying.
The victim could not tell her aunties and other relatives about her ordeal because her father warned against it, the report noted, adding that she did not know who her mother was, since she left her father when she was just three months old.
The case is currently in court after the victim’s ordeal was reported to the Domestic and Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
The DOVVSU said that the victim had been placed in protective custody and was being offered psychological help.
