“Ghana cannot survive under Mahama” – Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, says Ghana’s dwindling fortunes can only be reversed with an Akufo-Addo victory in the 2016 elections, as President John Mahama and his NDC government have shown in their 7 years of being in office that they have no solutions to the crises they have plunged Ghana into.

According to the NPP Chairman, also known as Chairman Wontumi, considering the heights President Kufuor and his NPP government raised Ghana to within the 8 year period rule of the NPP, there is no way Ghana should find herself drenched in a myriad of problems as the country is currently facing.

These problems created by President Mahama, he said, included economic mismanagement, enterprise failures, widespread unemployment, high cost of living, unaffordable utility tariffs, rampant corruption, and crises in health and education systems.

The NPP Chairman made this known when he delivered the opening address at a meeting of regional and constituency executives, as well as parliamentary candidates and their competitors from 16 constituencies, on the 1st day of Nana Akufo-Addo’s “Rise and Build Tour” of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, October 8, 2015.

“If Ghana is to develop, it cannot be under the rule of President Mahama. Ghana is endowed with mineral resources like gold, bauxite, manganese, diamond, cocoa and an abundance of human resources. We now produce oil in commercial quantities, and yet still we are worse off as a nation,” he stated.

Chairman Wontumi was of the conviction that Ghana’s problems stem from the fact that the President Mahama and his NDC have nothing good to offer Ghanaians.

“If the NDC had not set out, when they won power in 2009, to destroy what President Kufuor had built, there is no way you will find the spectre of hundreds of young men and women walking the streets without jobs,” he said.

However, Chairman Wontumi assured the gathering that all hope was not lost, stressing that “if we are able to work hard and ensure that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo becomes President of Ghana, that will be the only way to bring massive development to Ghana, as well as improve the wellbeing of Ghanaians.”

His message to the President Mahama and the NDC ahead of the 2016 election was simple.

“My message to the NDC is that they may have delayed our victory, but they cannot stop us (an NPP victory) in 2016,” he said, eliciting a rousing round of applause from the packed auditorium at the Georgia Hotel.

He thanked the parliamentary candidates and their aspirants from the 16 constituencies present at the meeting for their resolve towards fostering unity amongst the rank and file of the party, and, ultimately, working together for a resounding Akufo-Addo victory in the presidential election, as well as delivering the majority of seats for the NPP in the Ashanti Region in 2016.
