The Electoral Commission has declared Mrs Gifty Twum Ampofo of the New Patriotic Party as winner of Tuesday’s parliamentary by-election in the Abuakwa North constituency of the Eastern Region.

She replaces the late MP for the constituency, J.B. Dankwa Adu, also of the NPP, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds on Tuesday, February 9, at his Shiashie home in Accra.

Gifty Twum Ampofo polled 10,033 votes or 89.60% of the total valid votes to win the race from Mr. Isaac Kwarteng of the United Front Party who had 901 votes or 8.05% of the total. Mr Samuel Frimpong of the Democratic Freedom Party had 253 votes or 2.35%.

The National Democratic Congress chose not to contest the election.
