The IYF world youth culture camps which is a platform put together to train and transform the young people into future leaders has brought hope to more than 2 billion young people around the globe. This noble enterprise is 20 years and this celebration is coupled with the premiering of a life transforming movie “THE BIG SHOT”. This movie is based on a real life story of Rev. Dr. Kim Ki-Sung a former prisoner who is now the Director of the Police and Corrections Affairs of the International Youth Fellowship in South Korea. The Big Shot Movie is transforming many prisons around the Globe. Dr. Kim who spent almost 17 years of his productive life in prison, has captured the 17-year prison life experience in a mind blowing thriller labelled “THE BIG SHOT”.
Youth can be a positive force for development when provided with the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive. Today, there are 1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 years, accounting for 16 per cent of the global population. By 2030—the target date for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that make up the 2030 Agenda—the number of youth is projected to have grown by 7 per cent, to nearly 1.3 billion. These young people are envisaged to develop increased levels of loneliness, depression, harmful alcohol and drug use, and self-harm or suicidal behaviour. According to the World Health Organization, the mental health challenge due to the negative effects of COVID-19 is expected to rise, and yet there is no clear solution in sight.
Interestingly, a recent study conducted in China revealed very interesting findings on the grave impact of COVID 19 on the mental health of young people. The results of this cross-sectional study suggest that nearly 40.4% of 584 young people sampled were found to be prone to psychological problems whiles 14.4% of the same 584 young people sampled youth were found to be with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. Our society which is rapidly developing, has its focus on increasing and expanding materialistic economic values. Consequently, more weight is put on quantitative expansion rather than inner values, with more and more cases of justifying the means by the ends. Through the mind education, the International Youth Fellowship precisely teaches the world of the heart and the kind of mentality that will lead people to a successful and happy life. Most of our social problems today are often explained only in terms of superficial causes such as poverty, illiteracy, and bad development policies. However, if people do not come to know the fundamental reason for the problems which bedevil us as a society, such occurrences are likely to remain unresolved and would rather get worse than better.
International Youth Fellowship is a non-profit making NGO has partnered the National Youth Authority (NYA), Ministry of Youth and Sports to connect to the world through this online and offline camp. This event which starts from the 15th – 18th July, 2021 is meticulously put together by the International Youth Fellowship and its partners to train and enrich the hearts, minds and bodies of the youth from different countries all over the world.
