HOUSTON (AP) – Authorities say one student is dead and several are hurt after a school bus overturned on a highway in Houston.
The Houston Fire Department spokesman Jay Evans confirmed one fatality at the scene of the accident Tuesday morning, but did not give any other information about the student killed.
Houston Independent School District spokeswoman Holly Huffman says the bus driver and several students were injured. Huffman says the bus was bound for Furr High School.
Images from the scene show the wrecked school bus on its side, with vehicle pieces scattered nearby.
Houston operates the largest public school district in Texas with about 215,000 students.
