We’ll recruit 4,000 police personnel this year – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo says the welfare of officers of the Police Service will remain a priority to his government.

He said this when he announced that over 4,000 personnel would be recruited into the service this year, 2018.

He said the Police service will also be resourced to enable its officers to fight crime.

The President gave the indication in his address at a durbar of chiefs and people of the Gomoa Traditional Area at Apam in the Central Region.

“We are recruiting over 4,000 more people into the police service. We are also giving them equipment to give force to our police service. I will make sure that our police service is properly looked after, properly resources; my government will do exactly that,” he added.

President Akufo-Addo is currently on a four-day tour of the Central Region.

Following calls from Ghanaians on the government to retool the security services, about 200 salon cars have been bought for the Police.

The vehicles – Toyota Corolla and Camry –  have been parked at the police headquarters, and were shown to the police and the media by a Deputy Minister of Information, Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei last month, August 2018.

Nana Dokua said the government recognizes that the Police needs logistical support to tackle the upsurge in crime triggered by the advancement in technology.
