The West African Examination Council (WAEC), has hinted that results of 668 candidates which it has withheld are likely to be cancelled.

Speaking to Viasat 1 News, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the Council, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe said the results have been subjected to investigations and would be followed by sanctions.

on Wednesday, the Council released provisional results of 128,707 private candidates who took the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for 2016.

Out of the number, a total of 668 candidates alleged to have been involved in various examination malpractices have been withheld by the examination body.

The Deputy Director of Public Affairs at WAEC, Agnes Teye Cudjoe  indictated that the withheld results are currently under investigations but are “likely to be cancelled”, adding that this would serve as a deterrent to others:

“When we find out that you copied in a particular exams, your paper/s will be cancelled. However, bringing mobile phones to the exams hall and impersonation will attract a stiffer punishment which will be the cancellation of one’s entire results.”

‘We’ll also continue to embark on our educational campaigns to sensitize candidates and the general public about the offenses and malpractices, so that these things will be brought down to their bearest minimum,” she stressed.

Agnes Teye Cudjoe also urged the public to be wary of fraudsters who promise to better the results of candidates.
