Visa issues delaying Ghana squad list for Canada friendly – GFA

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saane Daara, says challenges in securing visas on the part of the team’s players have held up the announcement of Ghana’s team to play against Canada in an international friendly on the 13th of this month.

The two teams will face each other at the Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington in a match that is viewed by both teams as part of their preparations for their respective 2018 World Cup qualifying campaigns.

But while Canada has named its team for the match, Ghana is yet to state who it will be fielding and Saane Daara tells Citi Sports that some players are facing a few challenges in securing visas for the trip to the United States.

He explains that the team will be put out once all the players are given the green light to travel to Washington DC. “Some players are having challenges with visas while others have also pulled out due to injuries. That is why we have not named a team to play against Canada.

“We believe it will be unprofessional to name a squad and the, come back after a few hours to announce that this player or that player cannot feature because he did not get a visa to travel. We want to sort all those issues first and then name a team for the match.”
