Unicorn Air gets air certificate

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has granted an Air Operating Certificate (AOC) to Unicorn Air Charter Services to operate chartered air services from Ghana to other part of Africa.

That has made Unicorn Air the first company to have a purely executive private jet in the country.

Presenting the AOC to the company, the Director General of the GCAA, Mr Abdulai Alhassan, said the certificate was hard won and was not secured on a silver platter.

“We did not bend the rules for the company,” he said, and added that, the process to get the licence began in September last year.

The GCAA, he said, would be monitoring the company to ensure that the GCAA’s regulations were fully complied with.

Mr Alhassan congratulated the company for meeting all the requirements of the authority, and expressed the hope that it would add value to the airline industry.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr Philip Ayisa, assured the GCCA that it would abide by the rules, regulations, guidelines and standards.
According to him, the doors of the company were opened to any audit or inspection.

The company, he said, already had an aircraft for its operation.
“We hope to have a minimum of three aircraft by the end of the year,” he said.
