Unarmed police personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) stationed at the Tema steel works junction on Sunday went on relay without batons when armed robbers trailing a Toyota corolla GT 2800-14 shot sporadically into the air.
According to an eye witness, the occupant of the vehicle realized he was being trailed by another car used by the robbers believed to be armed so drove straight and parked at the Junction where there were about 6 police personnel directing traffic so they could protect him.
The robbers reportedly parked behind the corolla and started firing warning shots to scare others from the scene. This resulted in pandemonium with the police officers numbering 6 seen fleeing the scene in full flight paving way for the bandits to rob their target.
It is gathered that they made away with unspecified amount of money that was in their target vehicle though no one was said to have been injured.
On the return of the cops after the incident, they explained that they had no weapon on them and that was the reason they took to their heels.
