New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti region has dared government to arrest the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawamia, over claims of falsifying electoral documents.
Henry Kwabena Kokofu said the NPP will give government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a dose of their own medicine if they dare arrest the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
The NDC is calling for the immediate arrest of Dr. Bawumia for presenting fake documents to back his claims of bloated register.
Its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at a news conference in Accra said the NPP running mate in his bid to hoodwink EC and get Ghanaians to vote for them doctored most of the documents.
He explained that NPP’s claim that over 76,000 non-Ghanaians suspected to be Togolese had found their way onto the voters’ register could not be verified because the Togolese EC failed to hand over their register to them.
General Mosquito as he is popularly called said the conduct of Dr. Bawumia smacks of criminality thus must be arrested by the police.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Wednesday, Kwabena Kokofu pooh-poohed the NDC’s claim.
He said the supposed claim is just a grand scheme by government to cow everyone into submission ahead of the crucial elections.
“NDC and government should not dare us because Ghana does not belong to them. They should arrest Dr. Bawumia and see,” he fumed.
The Bantama MP indicated that the claim by the NDC lacks logic since the five-member committee set up by the EC to collate views on the bloated register admitted some of the accounts produced by the NPP are true and must be looked at.
Hon. Kwabena Kokofu said the NPP will be on a ‘red alert’ for any diabolical plan of the NDC to repel it.
