Savelugu: 84 needy students get tertiary scholarship

Eighty-four needy but brilliant students from the Savelugu municipality in the Northern Region have been awarded a Government of Ghana scholarship to enable them to pursue tertiary education.

The scholarship package totalling GH₵80,329 is for the payment of the tuition fees of the beneficiaries who are currently pursuing various programmes in some universities and other tertiary institutions across the country.

The package is under the government scholarship scheme and is being undertaken within 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) including the Savelugu Municipality.

It is to support the development of the human resources to contribute to the sustainability and the growth of the communities and provide opportunities for the youth to maximise their full potential and contribute to national development.

At a ceremony held at Savelugu last Friday to present the award letters to the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu advised the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and come out of the programme successfully and contribute their quota to their communities and the nation as a whole.

“As you pursue your education and want to access more funds for your education, you must focus on your studies and your academic performance would determine the continue access to the funds”, she stated.

Hajia Ayishetu said Education would help transform the country’s socio-economic development hence government’s commitment to make education the centrepiece of its transformation agenda,

She mentioned some of the initiatives being undertaken by the assembly to support the development of the youth in the municipality is to support them to acquire employable skills to enable them to set up their own businesses to earn a living as a way of curbing the unemployment rate in the area.

Yakubu Sigli Fatima, a beneficiary on behalf of her colleagues, commended the government for the support and pledged that they would study hard to justify the investment being made in them.

She also pledged that they would also give back to the community after they complete their studies.
