Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea could join Real Madrid this week — and might refuse to start the season at Old Trafford — according to reports in Spain.
De Gea has been the subject of sustained interest from the Spanish giants this summer, with United seemingly now resigned to losing their No 1.
The deal has still not gone through, but according to Madrid-based newspaper Marca it is set to be concluded this week as both Man United and Real Madrid are eager to end the tussle before the new season starts.
United kick off their Premier League season against Spurs on Saturday lunchtime and the Spanish press report that De Gea does not want to be involved while Louis van Gaal is resigned to the deal.
Real, for their part, are also keen to avoid the Spanish No 1 starting the season with another club, even if he does move before the end of the transfer window. — PAS
