Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region have been assisted by Project Maji Foundation with a solar-powered mechanized borehole water facility from Project Maji Foundation to supply them with 5,000 litres of portable drinking water daily.

These Communities Will Be the second in the Eastern Region to benefit in this project after Akosombo. The akosombo one was put up in the beginning of September at Akosombo and it was commissioned by Mr. Lalvani

One of the communities which was lucky to be selected was Danteng, a deprived community in the kwahu east municipality recieved two of the four whiles kwahu Akwaboah and kwahu Hwidiem received one each.

In his speech to commission the projects, The Founder of Project Maji Foundation Who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sulnil Lalvani said the main aim and vision of the project is to assist and empower women in the local communities, improve water quality and eliminate water borne diseases associated with contaminated water.

Mr. Lalvani noted that the project seeks to reduce the risk associated with children and students travelling long hours to fetch water in the bush for household chores

He added that there are over 20 more projects scheduled to be commissioned this year before October ends for some very deprived communities.

Project Maji Foundation, a non profit organisation was established in 2015 and has provided over 15,000 Ghanaians access to safe drinking water using a new technology called solar water kiosk said Mr Lalvani.

The minister of sanitation and water resources was represented by Mr. Ebenezer Charway, he said government as part of its agenda is committed to increase water supply to all communities across the country.

Mr. Charway also noted that government has taken steps through the creation of the ministry for sanitation and water resources to serve the deprived communities as well as address the sanitation issues in the country

The special aide to the municipal chief executive of the kwahu east municipality Ben Owusu Addo indicated that water supply is one of the key agenda of the assembly to ensure that economic activities in the local thrive.

The presiding member of the Assembly Hon Boansi Darkwa bemoans the maintenance culture of the people as a disturbing factor in sustainability of such project.

Mr. Darkwa therefore urged the community members to develop a maintenance culture that will prevent the facility from breakdown forcefully.

The Kontihene of Danteng Nana Kofi Yeboah expressed his gratitude to the to the project Maji Foundation for the kind gesture.

Nana assured them of his commitment to ensure that the facility is properly used and maintained at all times to prevent it from breaking down..
