President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Appoints David Prah as Director-General of TVET Service

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appointed Mr. David Prah as the Director-General of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, effective August 10, 2024.Mr. David Prah, who currently serves as the Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations at the Ghana TVET Service, will succeed Madam Mawusi Nudekor Awity, whose tenure officially ended in the first week of August 2024 following her retirement.

Madam Mawusi had retired from public service in August 2021 and was subsequently granted a two-year extension.

With over three decades of experience, Mr. Prah is a distinguished specialist in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as a Competence-Based Training (CBT) expert and academic.

His extensive career includes a significant role as the Senior Government and Public Relations Officer at the Volta River Authority (VRA), where he facilitated communication between the government, ministries, and the public.During his tenure, he also played a key role in managing corporate communication for several state institutions, including the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).

As the Corporate Affairs Director from 2017 to 2019, Mr. Prah consistently elevated the profile and communication strategies of these organizations.In 2014, Mr. Prah joined the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) as a Quality Assurance Officer, where he was responsible for ensuring compliance with COTVET’s quality standards for TVET providers and qualifications awarding bodies. His role also involved conducting due diligence in accrediting TVET providers and coordinating Quality Assurance and Management Systems, as well as Learning Materials Development for TVET CBT programs.In academia, Mr. Prah lectured on Competency-Based Training (PTC) Facilitation Methods and other specialized topics at the University of Education, Kumasi – COLTEK in 2015. His influence extends internationally, having participated in workshops like the “Improving Work Opportunities for Young People in the Commonwealth,” organized by the British Council in London in 2019 and 2020.

He also contributed to the CBT curriculum development for the Oil and Gas Capacity Building for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum in Accra.Mr. Prah has co-authored numerous course books and dissertations, further solidifying his academic contributions.

His leadership roles include serving as Member/Secretary of the Training Quality Assurance Committee of the COTVET Board (January 2015 – June 2017) and as Member/Secretary of the Technical Sub-Committee on the conversion of polytechnics into technical universities under NCTE/COTVET in August 2015.

With a strong commitment to excellence and a wealth of expertise, Mr. David Prah is recognized as a transformational leader and a preeminent figure in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
