Players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko could be GH¢2,000 richer today following some enticing winning bonuses promised them by the owner and Life Patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the management, if they overcome their in-form rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, in their titanic Premier League clash in Accra today.
The Asantehene made a GH¢1,000 per-player winning bonus pledge to the players last Saturday when he handed over the keys to a 30-seater Yutong bus to Kotoko at the Manhyia Palace.
According to the PRO of Kotoko, Kwaku Ahenkorah, Otumfuo’s offer follows a similar promise made by management to the players earlier in the build-up to today’s highly anticipated clash.
Mr Ahenkorah disclosed that aside those promises, many sympathisers of Kotoko, both in the country and outside, had made lots of pledges to the team in case they beat their arch-rival today.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Strategic Management Commitee of Hearts, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has reveasled that the club will not make any special monetary packages for the team as they clash with arch rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko today at the Accra Sports Stadium in the top fixture of the week.
Yesterday, Mr Odotei told the Graphic Sports on phone that there was no need to make promises to the team ahead of the titanic clash, adding that the team did not need such promises to live up to expectation. However, he noted that management was putting together a surprise package which will be annouced only after the final wistle.
“They don’t need extra motivation, but when they are done tomorrow, we will treat them with the surprise we have for them. We really want to keep this a secret. Aside that both board and management members will be fully represented at the stadium tomorrow to give them morale support,” he said.
Meanwhile, the team returned to Accra yesterday to continue their camping after a three-day intensive training at Kpong.
