The founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr Akwasi Addae Odike has thrown his support for the presidential candidature of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Odike who could not qualify as a presidential candidate and so pulled out of the race on Wednesday in a radio interview with Accra based Citi FM said Akufo-Addo was a man of action who deserves to be given the mandate.

Asked why he refused to support President Mahama, he said the President had shown that he “can’t deliver even given 100 years… he doesn’t deserve a renewed mandate.”

Showering praises on Nana Addo, Odike said he would organise and canvass votes for Akufo-Addo because his vision of industrialisation was similar to that of the UPP.

“He is a man of action and Ghanaians are craving for change and we see change coming. We are joining the winning team to ensure that Ghanaians get the change we ask for.”

“We are throwing our support for the candidate of NPP simply because his vision and our vision is almost the same. We believe in industrialisation, we think that industry is the best way to change the fortunes of this country for better.”

“Secondly Nana Addo is a very humble person, Nana Addo is very affable and Nana Addo is a man of …intelligence. So we believe that if this man is in the helm of affairs of this nation and he is also a listener, we can advise him on so many ways to change the fortunes of this country for better.

Nana Addo is a man of action and Ghanaians are craving for change and we see the change coming.”

“America has changed and all the other countries are changing the voting pattern to bring the leading opposition party into power so we are joining the winning team to ensure that Ghanaians get the change we are yearning for,” Odike added.
