The Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford has reportedly been shot dead.
The MP is said to have been shot on the Abeadze Dominase–Abeadze Duadzi–Mankessim road by some unknown assailants on his return from a campaign trip.
He is believed to have been attacked at about 1:00 am Friday morning by 6 armed highway robbers.
According to an eyewitness report, while the robbery was ongoing, the MP identified himself. This allegedly infuriated the robbers who blamed him for the problems being faced by people in the country.
Ekow Hayford is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
“The attackers who were not masked asked us to lie down; some of us run to the bush. The gunmen immediately shot at the MP who was in his Land Cruiser at the time.
“And so after they had left we got closer to the MP who was groaning in pain as he asked for water. He was not responding to my calls when I returned with the drink”, the witness recounted.
The body has been deposited at the Saltpond Hospital Mortuary, while police investigation commences.
