NPP to bring back social interventions — Bawumia

The presidential running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for this year’s elections,Dr  Mahamudu Bawumia, has ended a tour of the Volta Region where he assured the people that when voted into power again, the NPP would restore all interventions that were introduced under the Kufuor regime but were failing under the regime of the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

He said an NPP government would appoint into positions business-oriented people capable of overturning the dwindling fortunes of the National Health Insurance Scheme School Feeding Programme, and the withdrawal of allowances for the colleges of education and nursing among others.

He said the NPP government would take quick measures to ensure that the National Identification Exercise which was crucial to national planning was implemented without further delay.

Dr Bawumia was addressing tertiary students drawn from the Ho Polytechnic, the University of Health and Allied Sciences, College of Nursing, Holy Spirit College of Education and the Evangelical Presbyterian University, at the Ho Polytechnic last weekend.

He had ended a regional tour which took him to the Dambai, Jasikan and Hohoe Colleges of Education to impress on the students that the government of the day had failed in respect of the management of the exchange rate between the dollar and the cedi and the depreciation of the cedi as measured by  the exchange rate.

Dr Bawumia said implications of the huge amount of interest on loans contracted by the government was that this amounted to six times more than what the state generated, adding that the nation had compromised  the benefits of oil discovery to the payment of interest rates on debts.
