Nifa SHS has made it to the quarter finals of the ongoing National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after beating Achimota School and Holy Child School in the one-eighth stage of the competition.
After the first round of the contest, Nifa SHS, represented by Venissa Adzo Sedem Manya and Philip Amor Narh, emerged last with 15 points. Achimota School was leading with a score of 22 points and Holy Child was in second place with 20 points.
In the second round, however, Nifa SHS gained momentum and took the second place with a score of 28 points leaving Holy Child School in the third position with 22 points. Achimota School was still in the first position with 31 points.
Nifa SHS got the highest point of six in the Problem of the Day, Round 3, which saw them in the first position with 34 points leaving Achimota School and Holy Child School in the second and third places respectively.
In the True or False round, Round 4, Nifa SHS got all their statements correct, widening the margin of scores by seven points.
The last round started with Achimota School picking the first two riddles and closing the gap but still behind Nifa SHS with a one point difference.
Nifa SHS picked the third riddle, slightly widening the gap with four points. Achimota School had the chance of picking the last riddle on the second clue for four points but missed it to Holy Child School.
At the end of the contest, Nifa SHS won with 53 points. Achimota School placed second with 49 points and Holy Child School came third with 45 points.
The quarter finals of the NSMQ will start on Thursday, June 24, 2016 at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium, University of Ghana Business School, Legon.
