In our world of ever-evolving technology it isn’t surprising to see innovations become obsolete almost as fast as they hit the market. And that is the point the developers of WhatsApp seem to emphasize. The latest versions of the cross-platform messenger is coming in with features that may threaten the profits of some telecommunication companies in Ghana.
The said features will include group voice calls with up to four participants. And for users who had been love video calls, the latest release of the app comes with a group call feature with a maximum participation of four members. Now, while this may be welcome news for users who find this free messaging platform an invaluable element in daily undertakings it may not augur well for our telecom giants.
It is especially worse as it is becoming increasingly trendy to communicate via messaging than to commit to voice calls. With the addition of these new features, users might be more swayed to use the internet rather than voice calls for messaging. And though I stand to be corrected, apps like WhatsApp are appearing to be the less costive option.
