President elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has said, a referendum to create a new region out of the Western Region will be held jointly with the next district assembly elections.

Nana  Addo who  paid a courtesy call on the Western Regional House in Sekondi as part of his ‘Thank You’ tour of the Western Region, gave the assurance of creating a new region out of the Western region and called on the active support of the chiefs.

“by the time of the next district assembly elections, all the legal and constitutional procedures involved in the creation of the region would have taken place, together with the referendum that the constitution calls for is going to take place together with it in 2018. It is however not going to be possible for the region to be created unless I have your active support.” he said

Nana Addo who was accompanied by his Vice President Elect, Mahamadu Bawumia, the campaign manager, Peter Mark Menu as well as some leading party officials, also praised the Western Regional House of Chiefs and the people for their role in his victory:

“So i came here, through you, to the people of the western region to express the profound  gratitude of my party and myself for the extraordinary support.”

Meanwhile the Western Regional House of Chiefs President, Ogyeahohuo Gyebe urged the president elect to ensure progressive change that will benefit the western region and also guarantee a corrupt-free government.
