Ministry pays two months arrears to Kwasi Appiah

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has paid $70,000 to former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, as part payment of his outstanding salary arrears and bonus totalling $185,000.

The amount represents two months salary, leaving a balance of $115,000 to be paid to the coach at an uncertain date.
Graphic.com.gh investigations revealed that the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, hinted a delegation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of the advance payment at a meeting on Wednesday.
Further checks revealed that the Ministry paid the money last week, but failed to notify Kwasi Appiah as to when the remaining $115,000 would be settled.
Efforts to get the Minister to comment on the issue on Thursday proved futile.
However, sources close to the former Stars coach confirmed the payment but declined to comment on the issue.
Hitherto, the Ministry owed Kwasi Appiah five months salary from August to December 2019, in addition to one winning bonus of $10,000 for the last AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe last November.
The former Stars coach earned $35,000 a month, while his winning bonus was twice the amount of the players.
A few weeks ago, the soft-spoken coach threatened to seek Today’s intervention after officialdom turned a deaf ear to requests for his money.
